Brooklyn Botanic Garden 2005 Annual Report

Publications

BBG has long been known for producing publications that make cutting-edge plant research accessible to both professionals and the general public. In 2004, the Garden's commitment to pioneering publications was acknowledged by several prestigious awards.

Plants & Gardens News received Garden Writers Association awards for Best Writing and Best Product, as well as the GWA's top honor, a special Garden Globe Award of Achievement. No other publication was honored with so many key awards.

BBG became one of the first living museums to achieve full compliance with new federal accessibility regulations for websites. Visitors to the BBG website are now able to access all information on www.bbg.org with whatever equipment they use, be it the typical desktop browser, a Braille reader, or a cell phone or other handheld device. The website was honored with a Talking Hands Award for its model accessibility and excellence as a teaching tool. The BBG website continued to attract an ever-larger audience: Almost two million web users requested close to ten million page views.

Three titles were added to the newly revamped series of Brooklyn Botanic Garden All-Region Guides: Designing an Herb Garden, Intimate Gardens, and The Best Apples to Buy and Grow. These volumes cover a range of horticultural subjects, and unlike the typical gardening book, which is penned by a writer with knowledge of only one region, they are written by experts from every major region of the United States and Canada.
