Staff Accountant
Reports To: Controller
Primary Objective:
To assist business office in all areas including but not limited to monthly bank reconciliations, journal entries, balance sheet accounts analysis and maintaining relating Excel worksheets. Assists with yearend audit and issues 1099. Prepare group benefits payment schedules, (group health, dental, drug, vision, short-term and long-term disability, worker's compensation, life insurance, 401(k), 403(b) and retirement plan). Performs projects assigned by HR director.
Primary Responsibilities/Activities:
- Performs monthly bank reconciliation for operating, merchant and payroll accounts.
- Reviews outstanding check logs for possible abandoned checks.
- Makes journal entries for investment, handbook sales, payroll, prepaid, accrual, fixed assets depreciation and some costs allocation. Maintains relating Excel worksheets.
- Reconciles balance sheet accounts and some revenue accounts monthly.
- Records new handbook costs allocation.
- Administers petty cash fund.
- Prepares audit schedules for yearend audit.
- Prepares 1099.
- Reviews all expense reports for accuracy and proper expense disclosure and classification. Reporting any variances.
- Administers health, welfare and retirement plans. Benefit programs include: 401 (k). 403 (b), and Defined Benefit Plans, medical/dental, short-term disability, long-term disability, workers compensation, and life insurance.
- Collects and analyzes salary and benefit data; researches compensation, classification and benefit plan data; prepares comparability analyses and various reports in support of HR initiatives.
- Assumes responsibility for payroll in absence of HR Associate.
- Performs other related duties and HR special projects as directed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
- Min (2) years experience in accounting and benefits administration required.
- Ability to perform multifaceted projects in a well-organized, timely fashion, strong analytical and reasoning skills.
- Excellent computer-base skills.
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with all staff levels.
- Paychex payroll experience a plus
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Self-motivated.
