Scientific research is an essential part of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's mission. Scientists here have embarked on the most comprehensive study ever undertaken to identify and catalog the plant biodiversity of the New York metropolitan region. In our state-of-the art herbarium, there are some quarter of a million preserved plant specimens, which are used by botanists, environmentalists, and conservationists from all around the world.
