Summer Instructors: Children’s Garden

The world-renowned Children’s Garden at Brooklyn Botanic Garden has been a leader in providing children and teens with hands-on gardening experience for 99 years. Each Children’s Garden summer instructor develops and teaches age-appropriate gardening lessons to a group of up to 12 children with the assistance of two to three teen interns. Instructors must participate in an intensive three-week orientation and lesson-plan-development period prior to teaching in the Children’s Garden program.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work with BBG staff to develop gardening lessons for children ages 4–13 that incorporate nature study, crafts, and cooking activities.
- Provide instruction in gardening to children in the Children’s Garden.
- Work with teenage interns.
Qualifications:
- College-level studies or career experience in education, urban agriculture, nutrition, botany, or environmental or biological sciences preferred.
- Must have experience teaching children.
- Ideal candidate is experienced and comfortable working with youth and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Work Schedule: Training: Tuesday–Friday, 9:30 a.m.–4 p.m.; Program: Tuesday–Friday, 8 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Compensation: $10/hour
