Summer Instructor: Summer Science Adventures (SSA)

BBG’s children’s education programs are world renowned for using the Garden’s indoor, outdoor, and preserved plant collections to teach plant science to urban children. The Summer Science Adventures instructor develops lessons for and teaches a science-based program for youngsters ages 10 to 12. All summer instructors must participate in an intensive orientation and lesson-plan-development program prior to teaching in the SSA program.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop lesson plans and themes for the program.
- Lead a group of 16 to 20 children ages 10 to 12 in hands-on science lessons that include planting activities in BBG’s education greenhouses.
- Mentor high school interns.
Qualifications:
- College-level studies in education, botany, or environmental or biological sciences preferred.
- Must have experience teaching children.
- Ideal candidates are experienced and comfortable working with youth and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Work Schedule: Training: Tuesday–Friday, 9:30 a.m.–4 p.m.; Program: Tuesday–Fridays, 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Compensation: $10/hour
