Summer Instructor: GAP Garden Explorations

BBG’s children’s education programs are world renowned for using the Garden’s indoor, outdoor, and preserved plant collections to teach plant science to urban children. BBG’s Garden Apprentice Program (GAP) is an innovative youth-development program for teens in grades 8 through 12 who are interested in plants, science, and environmental education.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead 90-minute garden-based excursions each week for a group of 14- to 15-year-olds and a group of 16- to 17-year-olds in the Garden Apprentice Program.
- Highlight BBG’s collections by introducing students to the plants, design concepts, and history of a different area of the Garden each week.
- Lead interactive activities such as scavenger hunts, drawing and writing exercises, mini-tours, and other engaging experiences.
Qualifications:
- Must be familiar with or able to research BBG’s plant collections and gardens.
- Experience developing engaging garden-based activities preferred.
- Much have experience working with teens.
- Ideal candidate is experienced and comfortable working with students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Work Schedule: Tuesdays, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., plus additional 3 hours per week curriculum-development time
Compensation: $17/hour
