Gerry Moore

Director of Science, Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Dr. Gerry Moore is the director of science at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. He also serves as the coordinator of BBG’s New York Metropolitan Flora project (NYMF). In addition to NYMF, his research interests include the taxonomy of sedges (Cyperaceae) and brambles (Rubus) and the general nomenclature of vascular plants. Dr. Moore holds a PhD in plant biology from Vanderbilt University.

Susan K. Pell
Susan Pell

Molecular Plant Systematist, Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Dr. Susan Pell is the molecular plant systematist and laboratory manager at BBG. In this position, she oversees the Garden’s laboratories and conducts her own research in pantropical floristics and the molecular systematics, nomenclature, and taxonomy of the cashew family (Anacardiaceae). This research has led her on numerous international field expeditions to countries including Australia, Costa Rica, Gabon, Peru, Madagascar, and Papua New Guinea. Dr. Pell holds a PhD in plant biology from Louisiana State University.

Elyssa Arnone
Elyssa Arnone

BASE Program Manager, Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Elyssa Arnone is the Brooklyn Academy of Science and the Environment (BASE) program manager at BBG. In this position she serves as the liaison between BASE and BBG, working on curriculum development, improving students’ leadership skills, and coteaching AP Biology, Field Studies, and Urban Field Ecology. Ms. Arnone received a BS from Ohio University where she majored in botany and anthropology and received a young botanist certificate of recognition from the Botanical Society of America. Her first position at BBG was as the science education coordinator in the Science Department.
