CURE—Center for Urban Restoration Ecology

Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Rutgers University have joined to create the Center for Urban Restoration Ecology (CURE). CURE is the first scientific institution in North America dedicated to advancing the study and practice of ecological restoration on human-dominated lands. Restoration ecology is a rapidly growing scientific discipline that explores how functioning ecosystems and biotic diversity can actually be reestablished, especially on heavily disturbed or even barren land.

The New York tristate area has no shortage of befouled public land, and CURE is already involved in a number of in-depth investigations on industrial sites, Superfund sites, U.S. Department of Energy lands, urban forest fragments, wetlands, and tidal areas.
