Certificate in Floral Design
Train for a career in the floral design industry! This certificate comprises eight courses, taught by experienced professionals in the field. Basic and Intermediate Flower Arranging (or comparable experience) are prerequisites for many of the other courses and should be taken first. The others may be taken in any order. You must attend two-thirds of the class sessions to pass each course. Students who complete the full program receive an official certificate from BBG.

Basic Flower Arranging
This class covers the elements of floral design and the tools of the craft. Get a thorough introduction to basic techniques, including flower and foliage conditioning, greening an arrangement, and making bows. Learn to create arrangements in a variety of styles, including round, triangular, vertical line/mass, three-sided, crescent, and seasonal arrangements. Learn to consider color, line, and texture in your arrangements. Lectures, hands-on workshops, and critiques are integral to this class.

Wearable Flowers for Special Occasions (elective not required for certificate)

For the bride, groom, attendant, flower girl, ring bearer or extended family—and just in time for the senior prom and graduation—learn new techniques that will enhance your repertoire of corsages and boutonnières. Create unique designs using fresh flowers, greens, ribbon, colorful aluminum wire, and novel accessories. Prerequisite: Basic Wedding Flowers or equivalent experience.

Dried and Silk Arrangements

Dried and silk materials offer unique advantages, but also challenges, to the designer due to the long life of the arrangements and the light weight of the material. Learn the techniques and current styles you'll need to design with dried and silk flowers. You will work with silk and dried materials alone and in combination to make floral arrangements, a summer wreath, and an unusual wall design. Please bring floral clippers or a floral knife. No prerequisites.

Intermediate Flower Arranging
Learn more advanced arrangement styles and complicated design mechanics with a wide variety of fresh flowers. This class allows you to be more expressive in your designs. You'll master techniques for parallel designs, vase arrangements, and working without floral foam, among other topics. Lectures, hands-on workshops, and critiques are included. Prerequisite: Basic Flower Arranging or comparable experience.

Wedding Arrangements
Rose Edinger
Arrangements for weddings and other special occasions can make or break the event. Learn to make bouquets, corsages, pew decorations, centerpieces, and headpieces in the styles and flowers that most brides want. Prerequisites: Basic Flower Arranging and Intermediate Flower Arranging. Bring your toolbox.
