Fall and Winter Lectures

Winter/Spring 2009 registration begins Monday, December 1 at 9:00 a.m.

These courses are for anyone with an interest in flowers—not just professionals! Electives are not required for the Floral Certificate.

New York City Flower Market Tour

Nancy Kitchen

See a variety of wholesalers for fresh flowers and containers. Learn about pricing, diversity of selection, product availability, and seasonal fluctuations. You will meet suppliers and have the opportunity to make cash purchases.

Hydrangeas

Rose Edinger

Hydrangeas are gorgeous, durable, easy to dry, and versatile enough for many designs. Learn various ways to work with fresh hydrangeas, how to dry them, and how to create a lasting arrangement combined with other flowers.

Design on a Budget

Rose Edinger

Learn how to design with the "supermarket" bouquet. Create interesting, graceful arrangements with accessories such as foliage from home, string, wool, ribbon, or feathers. Basic design will be discussed. Bring floral clippers and/or a floral knife.

Horizontal Designs

Rose Edinger

Horizontal design is built layer by layer, creating a unique linear arrangement. The structure uses a variety of materials (fungus, dried leaves, bark, seed pods, and sticks) to create a long-lasting base to which fresh flowers are added. Prerequisite: Basic Floral Design.
