Carolina silverbell, mountain silverbell, wild olive, snowdrop tree—this species from the southern Appalachian Mountains goes by a number of evocative common names. No matter what you call it, Halesia carolina is a stunning tree, notable for its April-blooming snowy-white bell-shaped flowers. In the wild, this species typically grows up to 40 feet tall, but some 100-foot-tall specimens have been recorded.
