Planted at BBG in 1936, this weeping beech has grown over the years to become a shaggy colossus. This species initially grows upward, with its branches following a central, leading branch. In time the branches sag to the horizontal and finally grow downward. In summer the beech's plentiful leaves create a dense, shady cloak.
