Tasmanian Blue Gum (Eucalyptus globulus)
| Native Habitat: | Tasmania; Victoria, Australia |
Koalas are strongly associated with eucalyptus trees, but you won't see one munching on Eucalyptus globulus leaves. The Tasmanian blue gum is a towering species—it can reach 200 feet—and is one of Australia's most important timber trees. The eucalyptol oil in the tree's leaves is reputed to have antiseptic, antibiotic, and sedative qualities, but koalas don't like its taste.
