December In Bloom

The heady scent of fragrant olive fills the Warm Temperate Pavilion and the South African bulbs are in the early stages of their flowering cycle. In the Aquatic House a variety of orchids are in bloom. In the C.V. Starr Bonsai Museum, there is still a show of fall foliage, and a new Japanese lantern, attributed to the late 18th or early 19th century and generously donated to BBG by sisters Margaret Walch and Liz Katz of Manhattan, is on display. Outside the entrance to the Steinhardt Conservatory bright red winterberries cluster on branches. The Cranford Rose Garden is not yet dormant, and a variety of roses are still in bloom. They can be seen by strolling through the Garden or from the Overlook. The ultimate holiday plant, the poinsettia, can be found in the conservatory, the Visitor Center and at the administrative entrance, 1000 Washington Avenue.
