Prunus sargentii

Seed for this cherry with delicate pink blossoms was collected from the mountain slopes of Japan in the late 1800s by Prof. Sargent of the Arnold Arboretum, among others. The Japanese name for this rather large species means "great mountain cherry."

Location: Bonsai House, Dwarf Conifer Area (east of stream), Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden (East and West). Prunus sargentii 'Columnaris' located in Prunus Triangle (west of Palm House entrance)
