Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden Photo Album
The viewing pavilion. Redesigned and rebuilt in 2001. Architectural drawings done by Mr. Ryoichi Kinoshita, Kyoto, Japan.
The bridge, at right, leading to Turtle Island is called the drum bridge (taiko-bashi), because its high rounded shape and reflection in the water form a circle reminiscent of a taiko, or large Japanese barrel drum.
One path in the Japanese Garden traces the shore of the pond.

The Alfred T. White Memorial, named in honor of the Japanese Garden's original benefactor.
Two bronze cranes near Turtle Island are re-castings of those that were in the Japanese Garden the day it opened.
