Composting Online

If you have access to the Web, you'll find lots of information about composting, including discussions among composters who need help and others who have answers. Sites occasionally change addresses, so if you can't find what you're looking for, try a search engine using key words such as "composting" and "vermicompost."

For in-depth information about backyard composting, start with Cornell University's composting site. Another good site, especially for urban composters, is City Farmer —Canada's Office of Urban Agriculture, an organization based in Vancouver, British Columbia. This site has excellent information about growing food and composting in cities.

If you want to get into a conversation with other composters at a website where you can raise questions about your pile and get answers from experienced composters, try How to Compost.org's forum.

Brooklyn Greenbridge, Brooklyn Botanic Garden's community horticulture program, also has a composting page that includes a wealth of information about composting, particularly in urban environments. The site also includes a schedule of composting classes held at the garden on a regular basis.

Two sites about composting with worms include www.wormwoman.com, Mary Appelhof's site for vermicomposting resources, and the worm page of http://yucky.kids.discovery.com, a great site for kids.
