Christopher Roddick is an ISA-certified staff arborist at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Formerly the head arborist at Scott Arboretum, in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, he is currently a tree consultant and instructor specializing in mature tree preservation, pruning, and tree diagnostics. He has climbed, pruned, and cared for trees all over the U.S. for more than 20 years and has also been on two expeditions to French Guyana doing tree canopy research.

Beth Hanson is former managing editor of Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s handbook series and editor of nine handbooks, including The Best Apples to Buy and Grow (2005), Designing an Herb Garden (2004), Natural Disease Control (2000), Chile Peppers (1999), and Easy Compost (1997). She also contributed to The Brooklyn Botanic Garden Gardener’s Desk Reference (1998). She lives outside New York City and writes about gardening, health, and the environment for various publications.
