Pinus virginiana is a species of medium-size pine native to the eastern United States, from Long Island south through the Appalachian Mountains and west into Tennessee and Alabama. Virginia pines grow 30 to 60 feet high with a trunk diameter up to 1½ feet. The trees are often used for reforesting damaged ecosystems and provide excellent habitats for woodpeckers.
