White fir

Abies concolor is a species of medium- to large-size fir native to the mountains of western North America. White fir has citrus scent and grows 80 to 140 feet tall. Soft, long-holding needles make white fir a popular holiday tree.

  • Needles occur singly, not in clusters.
  • Buds are round or egg-shaped and have blunt tips.
  • Needles are attached directly to the stem.
  • Mature needles are 1 to 2 inches long.
  • Needles spread horizontally and are 1¼ to 2 inches long.
  • Needles have pointed tips and have white bands on upper and lower surfaces.
