Community Garden Alliance

All Brooklyn community gardens are invited to join the GreenBridge Community Garden Alliance. The Alliance's focus is on promoting sustainable gardening practices to support healthy communities of people, plants, and wildlife.

The GreenBridge Community Garden Alliance facilitates skill sharing between gardens through gardener-led workshops and seasonal gatherings. The Alliance is an avenue for communication and learning, where personal connections are forged and technical horticultural assistance may be obtained. The Alliance benefits from the knowledge and beauty of Brooklyn Botanic Garden while bringing the creative energy of community grassroots greening projects back to the institution. Most important, the Alliance celebrates the wisdom, expertise, and experience of community gardeners.

To join the Alliance, please complete the linked survey and registration information form and return it to GreenBridge by this year's deadline. For more information, contact greenbridge@bbg.org or call 718-623-7250.

Summer Workshop Series in Brooklyn Gardens

July 15 & July 27 Native Plants and Pollinators
Cultivating native plants is a wonderful way to learn more about our local ecology, protect the habitat of birds and insects, and prevent the spread of invasive species. Most native plants require less watering and care than nonnative species because they do best right here! Native plantings also attract more pollinators to your garden, which means more fruits and vegetables. This summer, GreenBridge will offer two workshops in community gardens on different topics relating to native species. Gardeners will learn how to use native plants to provide habitat for bird and insect pollinators, create rain gardens, and even track local temperature changes.
July 29 Extending the Season with Cold Frames and Row Covers
At this season-extension workshop in Brooklyn, we will learn about cool-season crops and techniques for growing food longer— even into the winter! Gardeners will have a chance to build cold frames for the host garden and learn how to set up row covers.
