P08. Sedum 'Matrona'
Sedum (cultivar)
Hardiness: USDA Zones 3–8
Full sun to partial shade
Dry to average soil
1½–2½ feet tall
This superb hybrid sedum from Germany offers round, succulent, gray-green leaves on glistening upright dark burgundy stems. The midribs and margins of each leaf are shot through with vermilion. Large, pale pink flower heads top the plant in late summer and are very attractive to foraging bees and butterflies. The foliage turns to deep burgundy in the fall, complimenting the flower color. A multiple award winner, 'Matrona' does best in moderately fertile, well-drained soil and full sun. It is extremely drought tolerant.
