T25. Lagerstroemia 'Muskogee'
Crape myrtle (cultivar)
Hardiness: USDA 7–9
Full sun
Moist soil
20–25 feet tall
This crape myrtle cultivar is a horticulturalist's favorite for many reasons. Hybridized to resist the powdery mildew that can plague Lagerstroemia species, 'Muskogee' tolerates sandy, clayey, and urban soils, as well as drought and heat. The small tree's 6- to 12-inch lavender-pink flower clusters are long enduring, blooming from mid-June well into September. Lively reddish-orange autumn foliage and gray-brown shedding bark add to the plant's charms. And best yet, crape myrtles do exceedingly well without pruning, pinching, or pampering; 'Muskogee' presents naturally frequent blooming and a sturdy, upright habit.
