Joe-pye weed (cultivar)

Eupatoriadelphus dubius

Hardiness: USDA Zones 4–9
Full sun
Moist soil
Native plant
3–4 feet tall

Butterfly-attracting native joe-pye weed can be a bit tall for some residential gardens. Problem solved with the compact 'Little Joe': Reaching around 4 feet in height, it seldom needs staking and is great for small borders or even containers. Blooming from midsummer into September, the small purple flowers lure pollinators to your garden, and the plant's dark green lanceolate leaves and flat-topped, compound inflorescences over reddish stems will delight human visitors as well. A slow to moderate spreader, 'Little Joe' takes moist soil and full sun.
