Hana to Mushi: Flowers & Insects

April Vollmer & Kako Ueda

Saturday, April 7–Sunday, May 6, 2007

Opening Reception: Saturday, April 14, 1–3 pm

To celebrate the beginning of Hanami, the cherry-blossom-viewing season, the gallery is proud to present two artists inspired by the natural world who use contemporary takes on traditional Japanese methods to produce their graphically styled art. Inspired by her studies in Japan, April Vollmer uses the traditional Japanese method of printmaking called moku hanga to create her vibrant, contemporary works. Japanese native Kako Ueda uses paper cutting to create her intensely intricate monochrome works of beauty inspired by Japanese stencil designs. Meet both of the artists during this year's Sakura Matsuri.
