From Nature to Abstraction: Contemporary Views From Japanese Artists

In celebration of this year's Sakura Matsuri, Lightbox Gallery brings a group show of three contemporary Japanese artists to the Steinhardt Conservatory Gallery. Momoji Matsumoto brings realist images of cherry blossoms, spring flowers, and melodious birds placed against an elegantly abstract sumi ink backdrop. Akihiko Iwanami uses porous mineral materials taken straight from nature to create his wonderfully dramatic abstract expressionist works. Finally, Kazuko Fujiwara creates delightfully inspiring abstract works that reflect the pure elements of nature.
