Artist's Statement

My work examines the structure in visible things. I look to a piece of fruit, a landscape, or a photograph for rhythm, movement, color, and space. I contemplate, collect, abstract, and reconstruct these elements to make metaphorical tapestries.

In this series I crop photographs of gardens and remake their space in layers of pattern, amplifying existing color relationships. The order of the photograph is remade as both landscape and field; vista and forest floor.

My process assumes its own rhythm. I print with paint and paint with leaves. Working on panel, I roll and sand, as every act in paint refines the structure of the painting.
