Join us on October 22 for an Oktoberfest-themed party that will whet your appetite for artisanal food, craft beer, and stimulating discussion on the science of brewing.

Four beers will be on tap: Connecticut brewer Thomas Hooker's Octoberfest Lager (widely considered the best Oktoberfest-style beer in America); Dogfish Head's seasonally appropriate Punkin Ale; Smuttynose's beguiling Belgian-style Star Island Single; and Doc's Draft Hard Apple Cider, one of the tastiest ciders in the U.S.

All will be paired with delicious farmstead cheeses from Sprout Creek Farm in Poughkeepsie and served with Brooklyn-based Z Crackers. Local pickle purveyor Rick's Picks will be offering an array of sour surprises, and a special nonalcoholic beverage will also be available.

For the evening's "toast," New Yorker writer Burkhard Bilger, who profiled Dogfish Head brewmaster Sam Calagione for the magazine last year, will discuss the finer points of brewing craft beers with Brooklyn Botanic Garden's director of Science, Dr. Gerry Moore.

As with the first LLL party, calling cards will be scattered around cafés, restaurants, and bars in Brooklyn, including the Greene Grape wine shop, Oslo Coffee, Champion Coffee, Tini Wine Bar, Franklin Park, and Ortine. Guests are encouraged to bring their cards, signed, to be entered into a drawing for a year's free admission to Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
