Spring Gala Honoree: Edward O. Wilson
Edward Osborne Wilson is one of the greatest thinkers of the past century. His groundbreaking research, original thinking, and scientific and popular writing have changed the way humans think about nature, and our place in it. He is recognized as one of the foremost naturalists in both science and literature—a synthesizer who has applied his scientific perspective and experience to illuminate the human circumstance. Growing up in the countryside of Alabama, he was entranced by nature and all its creatures, and over his long career he has pioneered efforts to preserve and protect the biodiversity of the planet. He has received many of the world’s leading prizes for his research in science, his environmental activism, and his writing, including two Pulitzer Prizes. He holds the post of Honorary Curator in Entomology and University Research Professor Emeritus at Harvard University, where he has been based since 1953.
