Expanded Native Flora Garden
This spring marks an extraordinary celebration of New York City's natural history as BBG opens its expanded Native Flora Garden. This project adds one acre to increase the size of BBG's historic 102-year-old Native Flora Garden. The expansion will be home to 15,000 new plants representing over 150 species, many of them rare or threatened the most propagated from seeds collected from the wild by BBG experts. It features the country's only representation of the unique pine barrens habitat and the unusual plants that grow there, along with other remarkable native habitats. This is a major achievement for regional conservation efforts and sets a new ecological standard for public gardens worldwide.
We are delighted to give special recognition to Darrel Morrison, the expansion's lead conceptual and ecological designer, and the many phenomenal partner in this project, at the Spring Gala.
