Bird-of-Paradise

Strelitzia reginae ‘Mandela’s Gold’

This plant, in bloom in the Warm Temperate Pavilion, was grown at BBG from seed provided by Kirstenbosch National Botanic Garden in Cape Town, South Africa. The cultivar is prized for its distinctive yellow sepals and was named for Nelson Mandela.

Plants in Bloom

  • Hundreds of pink 5-petaled blossoms stand out against a dark trunk and blue sky.

    Cherry Blossoms

Cherry trees usually begin to flower in early April. An individual tree may only bloom for a week or two, depending on the weather. Of course, if they were in bloom all the time, they wouldn’t be so special.
