New York State Arborist Tree Climbing Championship

New York State Arborist Tree Climbing Championship

Saturday, October 18, 2014 | 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
Free with Garden Admission

Come out to watch, meet, and talk trees with arborists! The top tree climbers from around New York State will compete in this invitation-only contest presented by the New York State Arborists chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture.

Contestants will be judged on their overall productivity and skill climbing in a safe and tree-friendly way. Each climber has 20 minutes to set a rope from the ground, perform five tasks in the tree—including visiting handsaw, limb toss, and limb walk stations—then return to the ground and remove all gear. Each of this year’s climbers has been a top finisher in recent years, including Brooklyn’s own defending champion, Lawrence Schultz. Winners will have a chance to compete next spring in the 2015 International Tree Climbing Championship.
