Experience the summer solstice as a celebration of new energy and abundance with sweeping performances at sunrise and sunset of the lyrical gem Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt, in a world-premiere arrangement created by Metropolis Ensemble with Sandbox Percussion and Erik Hall for over 50 percussionists and musical artists.

The sunrise-and-sunset pair of performances culminates Biophony, a four-season collaboration between Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Metropolis Ensemble.

Sunrise Performance: 5–6:30 a.m. on Cherry Esplanade
Intimate performance by Sandbox Percussion and Erik Hall

Sunset Performance: 7:30–9 p.m. in the Plant Family Collection

Free with Garden admission. Select a morning ticket if you will arrive before 10 a.m.

Visitor Information

  • During the performances, you may sit on a blanket or stadium chair (no folding chairs, please). There will be a small section reserved for wheelchairs and people who require a seat. If you require an accessibility accommodation, please contact [email protected].
  • Admission before 10 a.m. is at 990 Washington Avenue only. To return for the evening performance, show your ticket at any public entrance. Last entry at 8 p.m.
