Healthy Gardening with Children

Families & Kids

April 15 | 10:30–Noon

Join the Brooklyn Borough President in BBG’s Discovery Garden and Children’s Garden for a fun morning exploring healthy foods and how they grow!

Visit the Discovery Garden to experiment, learn, and play. Explore plant and animal connections and check out the vegetable beds to see food plants. Pot up and bring home your own basil plant.

The Children’s Garden at BBG is an urban farm where children have learned to grow, harvest, and cook their own food for over 100 years. The garden is normally only open to children enrolled in our gardening programs, but on a few special days each year, the gates are opened to the visiting public. Join us for this special open house and tour the fruits and vegetables growing in the garden, dig for worms in the Dig Zone, and check out the teaching kitchen and historic tool room. Hunt for chickweed in the field and help prepare a batch of chickweed pesto to taste. Learn more about summer programs in the Children’s Garden for children 2 to 14 years old.

Free with Garden admission. Note: Garden admission is free on Saturday until noon.
